Graduation represents an important conclusion to your period of study at the University of Tennessee. We have a short list of things to be aware of as you enter your final semester.
Final Semester Enrollment
In your final semester, you are only required to take the credit necessary to graduate. You must submit a Final Semester Confirmation Form and make sure that you register in at least on in-person credit.
Understand Your Final Program Date
Immigration guidelines use the final date you last attended classes NOT your graduate date. This means that it is very important to plan for Optional Practical Training (OPT), transferring to another school, or returning home based on the final date of your program. You can find the final date for each semester at the ISSS Calendar.
Invite Friends and Family to Graduation
You may have friends and family that want to visit for your graduation. This is often done using the B Visitor visa. You can find more information on the B Visitor Visa at the Department of State website.
You may need to provide a letter of invitation for the visa application. We have provided a template you can use the Sample Letter for Family Invitation. In addition to the letter, you may be asked to provide an Enrollment Verification and details regarding the Commencement Ceremony. You can request an Enrollment Verification following the instructions at One Stop. You can find details on the Commencement Ceremony at the Commencement website.
