Job Title: Assistant Professor of African Studies
Job Duties: Teaching, research and scholarship in the area of Africana Studies and Global Health; Opportunity to affiliate with other academic units/programs in the faculty members’ areas of scholarly interest (e.g., Women, Gender, and Sexuality; Global Studies).
Job Requirements: PhD in Africana / Pan African / African American / African Studies, or related field by time of appointment plus Experience or demonstrated ability to: design and deliver face-to-face and/or hybrid format courses; teach one or more courses as the instructor of record at the undergraduate or graduate level; and service and mentorship to advance the Department of Africana Studies. It also requires Evidence of commitment to research / scholarship creative activity, teaching and service; Work focus that includes Africana Studies and Global Health in the behavioral and social sciences, and explores health, wellness, and/or medicine within an international or global perspective; Strong research skills and a research agenda that will lead to publication in academic journals and/or books; Research agenda encompassing a broad spectrum of scholarship and creative activity related to the Continent (and/or peoples) of Africa, the African Diaspora, and/or the African American experience, and that is aligned with our Africana Studies academic unit, especially consistent with the buildout of “Health, Psychology, and Ecologies” concentrations, which emphasizes the study of the human condition (physical and mental health and behavior) and the environmental living context of African-descended people around the world; Ability to help propel Africana Studies at UTK into a leading department nationally and globally through world-class scholarship and teaching; and Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the university.
Employer will pay or exceed the prevailing wage determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.
