Assistant Professor of Flute

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Flute

Job Duties: Teach flute to undergraduate and graduate flute majors in applied lessons and studio class, and create / supervise student flute chamber ensembles; Teach flute methods in the music education curriculum and work closely with the woodwind area concerning student recitals, hearings, scale proficiencies and juries; Effective recruitment of quality flute majors and high rates of student retention; Work closely with University band and orchestra directors concerning the placement and performance of flute students within ensembles; Maintain a record of national and international creative / scholarly activity (may involve occasional travel to performances) and provide service contributions appropriate for a university faculty member. Other teaching areas may be assigned depending on expertise.

Job Requirements: Doctorate in area of specialty required by time of appointment. Also requires Proven success in teaching at the college / university level; Emerging national visibility as a performer as appropriate to rank; A consistent, well-rounded record of scholarly and creative activity; Demonstrated abilities in organization, and communicating and working effectively with faculty, students and colleagues; Successful recruitment strategies, including building relationships with local, state and regional music educators. Preferences: Background and/or educational experiences in specific areas (e.g. grant writing, career development, business / finance, entrepreneurship, wellness, etc.) that can assist students in developing the necessary and relevant skills of musicians in the twenty-first century; and Ability to lead non-Western and/or non-canonical ensembles or related activities.

The employer will pay or exceed the prevailing wage determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.
