All prospective international students, regardless of immigration status, must first apply for admission to the university.
Student Admissions Process
If you are a prospective student, please feel free to browse our site to learn more about the Center for International Education and our office, International Student Services.
Once an offer of admission has been made by the university, CIE will issue an I-20 or DS-2019. These forms are the official documentation from the university that is used to apply for your student visa.
In order to issue your I-20 or DS-2019, you must have submitted the Confirmation of Financial Resources, original bank statements or letters from your financial institution, and a copy of the bio page of your passport. You will receive more information after you have been officially admitted. The documents can be submitted as a pdf attachment to email@example.com or by regular post to:
University of Tennessee
Center for International Education
International Student & Scholar Services
1620 Melrose Avenue
Knoxville, TN 37996-3531
For specific details on what financial documents or statements are accepted by UT, please review the Estimate of Expenses page.
If you do not have sufficient funds or we have not received your financial documents, we will notify you. Please keep in mind that on-campus student employment is not guaranteed and should not be seen as a significant means of support while at the university. Thus, with the exception of graduate assistantships, income generated from the regular student worker positions cannot be used as a basis of financial support on the Confirmation of Financial Resources.
If you have already been admitted to the University of Tennessee and you have questions about applying for a visa, housing or registering for classes, please read our International Student Handbook. If you have any questions regarding your financial documents, please feel free to contact our office. You will be routed to the appropriate person who can assist you.
