Tax filing season is upon us! While CIE is not able to offer individual tax advising, we would like to provide some information about the services and resources available to all of UT’s international students and scholars to assist with filing a 2016 tax return.
Glacier Tax Prep (GTP) Access Code
CIE has a license for a software called Glacier Tax Prep (or GTP) to assist non-resident aliens with their tax returns. The latest date the GTP access code will be emailed to you is Wednesday, February 22nd.
Tax Info Sessions
CIE will host two Tax Info Sessions in February and March. These sessions will include an overview of nonresident alien taxes and a demonstration of GTP software. Attending a Tax Info Session is not required, but simply offered to provide some additional explanation of the tax system.
Tuesday, Feb 28, 10am-11:30am
Friday, Mar 3, 3pm-4:30pm
Both sessions will be held at the International House Great Room
Nonresident Alien VITA Site
The International House will host a site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This VITA site will be staffed by volunteers with specific training and certifications in assisting nonresident aliens with their tax return. If you find you need one-on-one assistance in completing your tax return you may visit the VITA site during their scheduled hours.
The site will run Feb 13 – Apr 14, except for the week of Spring Break.
Once again, please remember that CIE cannot offer individual tax advising. If you have additional questions at this time, please visit the CIE tax information page.
